Florence was by far my favourite city we visited on this two-week trip. I can't describe to you exactly what made me love it, but it's a combination of the people, the architecture and the fact that it's a smaller city. The highlight of the city is the beautiful Piazza della Signoria, which houses numerous statues, the Palazzo Vecchio which translates to "old palace" and the entrance to the Uffizi museum.
Another amazing place to visit in Florence is the Galleria dell'Academia. Here is where you'll find the famous statue of David as well as many other unfinished statues by Michelangelo. You won't believe that one man was able to create such a large statue, but it is part of the reasons why Michelangelo is so famous. He is known to create beautiful masterpieces.
Another must see in Florence is the Duomo. The word duomo translates to cathedral in English, so it might not surprise you that there are many "duomos" all over Italy. However, when referring to the Duomo, we're talking about the one in Florence. The Duomo is a gothic style cathedral that started construction in 1296 ("Cathedral in Florence"). It is astonishing to believe that such an intricate infrastructure was built so long ago.
Of course there is much more to see while in Florence but these are a few of the must see spots. While you're there don't forget to drop a coin from the famous bronze boar in the market for good luck!
